WASHINGTON – Last night, American Federation of Teachers President Rhonda “Randi” Weingarten took to Twitter to say, “One year ago today Trayvon Martin was killed. His killer walked free for too long empowered by ALEC and the NRA.”

Actually, George Zimmerman’s problem is that he wasn’t a member of the AFT. For if he was, he would have likely been defended at all cost, in our opinion.

In 2009, The New Yorker quoted a New York City principal as saying Weingarten “would protect a dead body in the classroom.” The union regularly defends members accused of horrible crimes because, you know, the union believes in “due process.”

But Weingarten is outraged about George Zimmerman, the American Legislative Exchange Council and the NRA.

Many are remembering Trayvon Martin today on the first anniversary of his shooting death, and a candlelight vigil is scheduled for tonight in New York City. American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten came down firmly on the side of Team Trayvon today, and somehow managed to implicate the NRA as well for “empowering” George Zimmerman.

Weingarten didn’t stop there; she also conflated the Trayvon Martin shooting with the mass shootings in Aurora, Newtown and Columbine in a call to address “gun safety and mental health.”

If only Weingarten was as outraged by the teacher/student sex epidemic, poorly performing schools which leave students unprepared for life or the devaluation of human life in entertainment and the media, perhaps she would be a little more persuasive.
