TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A Florida school board is reviewing a high school world history textbook over claims that it heaps praise on the Islamic faith while unfairly portraying Christianity and Judaism.

The review by the Brevard County board is a result of a complaint by Florida State Rep. Ritch Workman, who recently expressed his outrage over the content of the advanced placement textbook.

The book, simply titled “World History,” is used in high school courses across the country.

According to Fox News, the book contains a 36-page chapter fondly devoted to “Muslim Civilizations.” The chapter includes sections on the rise of Islam, the growth of the “Muslim empire,” the Koran and the five pillars of Islam.

The textbook doesn’t contain any chapters dedicated to Christianity or Judaism, or the huge influence they had over the development of western civilization.

Workman said the authors “make a very obvious attempt not to insult Islam by reshaping history.”

The book’s publishers confirmed to Fox News that there is a chapter titled, “Muslim Civilizations.” They also released a statement to Fox, stating that they reviewed the book and found that there is balanced attention given to Islam, Judaism and Christianity.

School board member Amy Kneessy agrees with Workman and is concerned about the amount of attention granted to the Islamic faith.

One issue for Kneessy is that historic Christian military battles are referred to in the textbook as “massacres,” while Muslim battles are considered “takeovers.”
