GREEN BAY, Wis. – A Green Bay elementary school teacher was arrested last weekend on charges of having sexual contact with an 8-year-old female student.

Jer Lovaj, 57, an English-language-learner instructor at Anne Sullivan Elementary, allegedly kissed, hugged and groped the student in his classroom on several occasions, according to a report from the Green Bay Press Gazette.

The alleged victim told two of her teachers about one recent incident, and they reported it to law enforcement authorities, the news report said. Lovaj was suspended from his job at the time and has since been fired.

Several parents of students at the elementary said they were deeply disturbed about the arrest.

“Nowhere is safe for kids anymore,” Tasha Santiago, who has a first-grade son in the school, told the Press Gazette. “It’s anywhere really. I talk to my kids about inappropriate touching and what they should do. You can’t just depend on the school, you’ve got to teach your kids about it at home, too.”
