CYPRESS, Texas – Four students were suspended and district officials are investigating after a high school girls fight was caught on cell phone and posted online.

Cypress Lakes High School sophomore Brandon Smith recorded the fight from a balcony between classes Monday. The recording is one of several that captured the incident, which were later posted to social media, ABC 13 reports.

“It was pushing, slapping, air pulling, rolling on the ground,” Smith said. “You can just see them fighting on the ground and everybody was giving them space. There’s a big crowd around them. The teachers were trying to push everybody out of the way to get to them.”

During the melee, at least four female students are going at it in two separate fights while a male student “oddly dances in the middle,” according to the news site.

Student Tyree Thomas, who witnessed the back to school brawl first hand, told Click2Houston the incident stemmed from a long-running feud. Another student told ABC 13 the feud evolved out of name calling over social media.

“People have nerves just getting back to school. They have been having beef for a while, those girls,” Thomas said. “So it was bound to happen eventually.”

Parents, of course, were concerned about the violence.

“My son is a freshman here and he is new and I always worry about him,” parent Breanna Nunez said.

“It happens everywhere but school, school just started,” mother Regina Hogan told ABC 13. “That shouldn’t be going on.”

The news site reports the parental concerns are well founded. Last year, a teen was shot during an after-school fight near the school.

Four students received undisclosed discipline, but were not arrested or charged with a crime, officials said.

A Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District issued a prepared statement about the Monday fight.

“We are extremely disappointed to see this type of behavior. This is not a representation of the pride out students take in themselves and our campus,” the statement read.

“The altercation was quickly broken up by staff and the students involved were disciplined according to the student code of conduct.”

Readers had plenty to say about the incident online.

“This is the future of America right here and the one who is dancing really should dance back to class,” franks posted to ABC 13.

“If this keeps up, schools will resemble corrections facilities,” Dave’s Not Here commented.

“It is good to see the kids are having fun during lunch!” allen added.
