McDONALD, Pa. – Some of the stuff that goes on in public schools is truly unbelievable.

Consider the experience of South Fayette High School parent Shea Love, whose developmentally disabled son had repeatedly told her of violent, foul-mouthed bullies who were tormenting him at school.

“I wanted her (Love) to understand what I went through. Like, it wasn’t like I was over exaggerating it. I wasn’t lying. It was really happening. I was really having things like books slammed upside my head. I wanted it to stop. I just felt like nothing was being done,” the unnamed student told BenSwann.com.

So the student, who suffers from several learning disabilities, researched anti-bullying tactics and used his school approved personal iPad to record seven minutes of his torture and played the recording for his mother.

BenSWann.com reports the following shocking circumstances:

“Outraged, Love, a former Air Force Morse code operator, transcribed the audio before calling school administrators.

“According to Love, as the teacher is heard attempting to help her son with a math problem, student says, ‘You should pull his pants down!’ Another student replies, ‘No, man. Imagine how bad that (s**t) smells! No one wants to smell that (t**t).’ As the recording continues, the teacher instructs the classroom that they may only talk if it pertains to math.

“Shortly thereafter, a loud noise is heard on the recording, which her son explained was a book being slammed down next to him after a student pretended to hit him in the head with it. When the teacher yells, the student exclaims, ‘What? I was just trying to scare him!’ A group of boys are heard laughing,”

It gets worse.

When Love confronted the school principal with the evidence, he had a very unexpected reaction: He called the police and suggested they charge her son with a felony wiretapping crime. In Pennsylvania and about a dozen other states, the law requires the consent of both parties of a conversation to legally record it.

School officials, who interrogated the student without his mother, forced the boy to play the recording for authorities and delete it afterward. What makes school officials’ conduct even more egregious is that school board policy specifically pledges no retribution for reporting bullying, the site reports.

Further, the South Fayette High School policy guidebook states “students with disabilities who engage in inappropriate behavior shall be disciplined in accordance with their Individualized Education Program, positive behavior support plan in place, each building’s Code of Conduct, and Board policy.”

It’s doesn’t reference encouraging criminal charges against bullied students. The school district, of course, refused to comment about the situation.

The bullied 15-year-old was eventually charged with disorderly conduct and found guilty March 19. The student was later removed from his disruptive special education math class, but the bullying students remain enrolled, BenSwann.com reports.

Love’s son was sentenced to Saturday detention, which he completed.

The absurd situation, however, isn’t over quite yet.

Love and her son are appealing his conviction and will appear in court April 29 for another hearing in Pittsburgh, the site reports.
