NEW YORK – It’s hard to tell what teachers unions and their allies really think about the new movie “Won’t Back Down.”

On one hand, unionists and groups like Parents Across America protested the premiere of the movie in New York Sunday. They say it gives an inaccurate and unfair portrayal of teachers unions.

Yet those same groups are already hawking a pirated version online, so people can watch it without going to the theater.

Norm Scott, who is a retired New York City union teacher and runs Ed Notes Online, posted a comment from his site onto a “Grassroots Education Movement” Google group site, according to EAGnews sources. The comment said:

“Watch Won’t Back Down movie online for free without downloading. Won’t Back Down is Upcoming Drama Movie. This movie directed by Daniel Barnz and written by Brin Hill and Daniel Barnz.

“Just Visit Here—Watch Won’t Back Down movie online,” the post read.

Leonie Haimson, a co-founder of Parents Across America, responded by asking, “Is this legal?”

Scott responded, “No not legal. It says not download but watch online. For people who don’t want to pay but see the movie to review,” according to a screen grab provided by our source.

It appears Scott is knowingly promoting an illegal pirated version of the movie. Why? Apparently union types obviously want to see the movie they so strongly object to, but don’t want to spend the money to see it in theaters.

Go figure.
