EL PASO, Texas – A Texas kindergarten teacher faces assault charges after she allegedly slapped, pinched and stepped on young kids last year.

Helen Ball Elementary School bilingual teacher Olga S. Najera was first accused of abusing students at Myrtle Cooper Elementary School last year, but an investigation could not substantiate the allegations and she was transferred to Helen Ball.

On Tuesday, El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Najera on two counts of injury to a child after she was indicted by a grand jury for injuring two students under the age of 14, though it’s unclear whether the charges stem from the allegations at Myrtle Cooper Elementary, the El Paso Times reports.

“Najera is accused of pinching a boy in the arm and scratching his hands, the indictment said. She also allegedly slapped a girl in the face, stepped on the girl’s foot and kicked her,” according to the news site.

The indictment alleges the abuse occurred between Aug. 1 and Aug. 16, 2016.

Najera was booked into the county jail and later released on a $15,000 bond.

The Times could not reach her for comment.

Helen Ball Elementary officials, meanwhile, sent an obscure text message to parents to assure them they have everything under control, KFOX reports.

“Good morning parents this is Anna Soto principal of Helen Ball Elementary School,” the text read. “I am calling to inform you that an employee of our campus was placed on administrative leave. As a result of an ongoing investigation into misconduct which occurred outside of Helen Ball Elementary. The safety and security of our students is our number one priority.”

Locals who commented about the accusations against Najera were not impressed.

“Administrative leave?” Ant Mari posted to Facebook. “How about you fire the teacher.”

“She should not be allowed to return to teaching … And should have her teaching degree removed!” Camina Levario wrote.

This infuriates me!! Why work with children if you cannot handle them properly!” Jessica Ramirez-Ayala posted.

“Let me find out some “teacher” here is slappin or hurting my son or any other kid. I’ll sit in that class and end that jackassery real quick,” Doran Hinchliff added.

“Wait, so one school doesn’t want her because of her abusive behavior, so they transfer her to another school to abuse kids there! Why not fire this monster?” Irma Saucedo Maynez posted.
