BUCKINGHAMSHIRE, England – Maybe the “idle rich” aren’t so idle after all.

A leaked email from one of England’s top private schools reveals that after one weekend in early February, female students requested so many “morning-after” pills from school nurses that the school ran out of the emergency contraceptive, according to the Daily Mail

Peter Last, assistant head of the prestigious Stowe School, explained in an email to staff members that the incident is “worrying” because it means students are having sex in their boarding houses, a violation of school rules and grounds for expulsion.

From Last’s email, as reported by the Daily Mail:

“Obviously, sexual activity is a very serious pastoral concern for us as a school, and something we need to be constantly vigilant for. The school rules do, of course, state that ‘no study, bedroom or dormitory may be entered by a student of the opposite sex.’

“This is clearly a difficult area to police, but the fact that students are openly saying that they have been having sex in their houses at weekend suggests that our level of supervision of them at weekends needs to be stepped up. … If pupils are relaxed enough to have sex in a boarding house, it is clear that there are either certain parts of the boarding house, or certain times of the day, when they are very confident that there will be no staff around.”

Last suggested that staff members begin appearing at unusual times and places, to keep students on guard. He also suggested that students be reminded “of our expectations and of our rules on sexual activity in school.”

Some critics have noted the irony that Stowe School bans sexual activity among students but yet provides them with “morning after” pills in the school’s medical center.

According to a former staff member, Stowe School does not provide condoms to its 770 pupils – about 30 percent of whom are female – on the grounds that might encourage sexual activity and undermine the school’s Christian ethics, the Daily Mail reports.
