A Texas high school teacher faces felony child porn and solicitation charges after police allege he sent sexually explicit images and messages to a young girl.

Jorge Ramirez, a 25-year-old first year science teacher at Era High School, turned himself in to Cooke County Sheriff’s officials last week to face charges of online solicitation of a minor and possession of child pornography, KXII reports.

Investigators searched Ramirez’s apartment and confiscated his electronic devices after they were tipped off by the school district about the teacher’s illegal online activities.

“On May 4th, the Cooke County Sheriff Office was contacted by Era ISD officials about an allegation regarding a high school teacher that was brought to their attention,” Sheriff Terry Gilbert said in a news release. “An investigation into the allegations led the Sheriff’s Office to obtain two probable cause warrants for the arrest of Jorge L. Ramirez.”

Ramirez admitted to sharing child pornography and sending inappropriate messages to minors on multiple social media sites, police allege.

“Court documents say when deputies arrived at his apartment they confiscated several electronic devices, including a ‘Tor’ privacy router, which is commonly used to download and share child pornography,” KXII reports.

Ramirez, who is on administrative leave from Era ISD, is only one of countless educators across the country who are arrested every week for possession of child pornography, or attempts to solicit sex from students.

Earlier this month, a third grade teacher in Pasco County, Florida was arrested on 10 charges of child pornography after sheriff’s deputies discovered numerous images of child sex on his personal cell phone, which he allowed officers to review as part of an ongoing investigation, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Spenser Brush, 47, allegedly admitted to accessing child porn “for the last several years” as he taught at Watergrass Elementary, though it does not appear any of his students were involved, investigators said.

School officials forced Brush to resign.

In Hardin County, Kentucky, officials fired West Hardin Middle School math teacher Robbie Thompson last week over his recent arrest on two counts of possession of child pornography.

The Courier Journal reports:

The 33-year-old from Hodgenville was arrested alongside Matthew Lyons of Elizabethtown after the state Cyber Crimes Unit found a 2018 chat between the two ‘involving pornographic images of minors,’ according to a press release.

California fifth-grade teacher Steven Pilar was arrested in late April after he was busted for “distribution of over 1,000 images and videos of child pornography,” according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Pilar, 43, was arrested and released on bail the same day, April 22, according to NBC Los Angeles.

In Utah, Weber County Sheriff’s deputies arrested math teacher Jared Biggs in late April after police allege he attempted to solicit sexually explicit images from a detective posing as a 13-year-old girl online, FOX 13 reports.

Biggs, who allegedly sent explicit images of himself, now faces four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of enticing a minor, according to the news site.
