HOUSTON – Stovall Middle School teacher and accused child rapist Alexandria Vera was all buttoned up in a white blouse and black blazer when she reported to court Friday for a bail hearing after turning herself in two days prior.

The teacher’s light makeup and professional appearance was a stark contrast to the seductive, cleavage-exposing selfies the 24-year-old English teacher likes to post to her social media accounts – images picked up by news outlets across the country as she avoided arrest for several days this week.

The mother of one is accused of engaging in a months-long sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student she initially met during summer school and who was later placed in her eighth-grade English class. She told police the boy’s parents approved of the relationship, and the two were in “love” and had sex nearly every day at her home. Vera said she became pregnant with the student’s child in January, but aborted the pregnancy when Child Protective Services showed up at Stovall a month later to investigate their relationship, KPRC reports.

On Friday, Harris County assistant district attorney Tiffany Dupree outlined the facts of the case for Judge Michael McSpadden, who set Vera’s bail at $100,000. She quickly paid the sum and was released hours later, the National Post reports.

Vera faces one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child, a minimum 25-year prison sentence without the possibility of parole. McSpadden imposed several conditions on Vera’s release, including no contact with anyone younger than 17 years old, a mandatory GPS ankle bracelet to track her movements, a house curfew between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m., as well as no contact with the victim, the internet or schools.

KHOU reports Child Protective Services are now investigating the victim’s parents for allegedly approving of their son’s sexual relationship with Vera.

Neighbors said the victim was a fixture at Vera’s home, which the teacher also used to host sleepovers they suspect involved underage drinking.

“That kid was always over (Vera’s house in Spring) and she always told (neighbors) it was her brother,” a neighbor who requested anonymity told KHOU.

“She was having a lot of kids in her home,” a neighbor said. “There was drinking in the front. We always found beer bottles and beer cans on her side of the lawn and half of the (teens) did not look older than high school, maybe.”

School officials have acknowledged Vera’s arrest and issued a statement that said she was removed from the school and placed on administrative leave in April.

Court records show that Vera, who has a 4-year-old daughter, met the victim’s parents at a school open house in October, and later went to their home where she was introduced as the boy’s girlfriend, KPRC reports.

Vera told police the family was accepting and invited her to future family gatherings, and when she later told them she was pregnant with the 13-year-old’s child they were “very supportive and excited.”

Despite allegations that the victim routinely spent the night at Vera’s home for sex sessions, and she later drove him home to catch the bus to school, Dupree said she doesn’t believe the boy’s parents did not assist Vera’s crime.

Investigators are working to determine if the parents can be charged with failing to report the sexual abuse of a child. In Texas, those who fail to report child abuse within 48 hours can face up to 180 days in jail, the National Post reports.

“I don’t think they’re a party to her crime,” Dupree said. “As far as the failure to report child abuse, that is a crime in Texas and that is an ongoing investigation.”

According to Daily Entertainment News:

Alexandria Vera is the daughter of a former Houston police officer Jaime Vera. Her family is no stranger to scandal, after her father was fired by the police department in 2011 following a 13-year career. After receiving several suspensions, he was fired for trying to pay off mechanics to pass the inspection of his car, according to the Texas Observer.
