ALLATOONA, Ga. – A student at Georgia’s Allatoona High School was nervous before a big competition, so naturally her coach allowed the girl to rub her breasts for good luck.

The coach and teacher, who was not named in media reports, was suspended for one day for allowing the teen to grope her chest on two occasions, and to sleep with her on a bus ride home from a competition, WSBTV reports.

The news site reports it sought information about the incidents when it received a tip, but district officials would not comment pending their investigation. The news site eventually secured an audio recording after the investigation concluded in which the teacher shrugged off the inappropriate contact.

“She was nervous about going on to a competition and was like, ‘Oh, good luck,’ and then just rubbed them for good luck,” the teacher said in a district-conducted interview.

“Like a baseball player walks up and hits his coach on the butt or a football player,” the coach explained.

One of the teacher’s colleagues told investigators the relationship extended beyond joking boobie rubs for good luck.

On one bus trip, the staffer said she saw the two “lay to where their stomachs were touching.

“They were face-to-face, lying on top of each other, and then just crawl up and go to sleep,” the teacher said, according to the audio recording quoted by WSBTV.

Parents told the news site the teacher’s punishment is a joke.

“That’s like an, it’s OK slap on the wrist,” parent Angie Thacker said. “It’s not OK.”

Her son Eric agreed.

“Going that far, that’s too much,” he said.

Quinton Washington, an attorney for the Georgia Association of Educators, believes the teacher will likely receive a much harsher punishment once the state’s Professional Standards Commission investigates the case.

“The standard is a year suspension,” he said. “I’ve seen them give less, but it’s been in very rare occasions.”

An investigator with the Professional Standards Commission confirmed to WSBTV that he’s set to review the case next week, which could spark an investigation and further disciplinary action.

Many who commented on WSBTV’s Facebook page thought the teacher’s lenient punishment from district officials illustrated a double standard between male and female teachers.

“For one day!? Women can be child predators too!” Gabriela Perez posted. “Absolutely disgusting and I hate the double standard! This pervert needs to be fired!”

“Had it been a man and he let a student tough him inappropriately he would’ve been put on leave without pay or fired,” Michael Barham wrote.

Franklin Hollis agreed that “if this would have been a male coach, people would have had him crucified by now.”

Others took the opportunity to poke fun at the situation.

“I am feeling very unlucky,” Chris Cook joked.

Erin Leigh Milligan opted for a Seinfeld reference: “They’re real … and they’re spectacular.”

“I’m not sure if rubbing boobs brings good luck, but I’m willing to try,” Chad Beaver added.

Heath Shaw wrote that “the last breast I touched … cost me thousands and 22 years with the same woman.”
