GRANITE BAY, Calif. – A Placer County teacher faces charges of sex with a minor and oral copulation with a minor stemming from an allegedly inappropriate relationship with a teen she taught at a special needs school.

Jennifer Lynn Woods, 35, was booked into the Placer County Jail Jan. 10 after the Placer County Office of Education contacted sheriff’s officials after learning of the alleged relationship between the teacher and her 16-year-old male student at Sierra Vista School for special needs students, Fox40.com reports.

The Placer County Office of Education lists Woods, of Granite Bay, as an employee in the Emotionally Disturbed Program, according to the television station.

“She was a model employee,” Placer County Superintendent Garbolino-Mojica told CBS. “We were taken aback of such a discovery.”

Authorities believe Woods engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with the teen two years ago, when the boy was 16 and 17, before he transferred to another school. They believe the relationship lasted for about a year.

Woods had been on administrative leave for the past three months as authorities investigated the allegations. She has been a teacher for nine years, CBS reports.

Woods was released from jail on $100,000 bail the day after her arrest. Her next scheduled court appearance is set for Feb. 4, FOX40.com reports.
