LYNDHURST, N.J. – A New Jersey elementary teacher faces criminal sex charges over an alleged lesbian sex session with a 15-year-old student at her home.

Investigators with Bergen County’s Special Victims Unit believe Lauren H. Mitchell, a married 33-year-old, brought a 15-year-old student from Jersey City’s Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School to her Lyndhurst home where the two performed oral sex on each other, the Cliffview Pilot reports.

“Several teachers at the Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School observed what they believed was inappropriate interactions between the victim and Ms. Mitchell on a class trip and reported their observations to school authorities,” according to a prepared statement from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office.

Mitchell is scheduled to be arraigned on one count of aggravated sexual assault and a count of endangering the welfare of a child on July 7. She was jailed in Bergen County on a $150,000 bail, and must surrender her passport and refrain from contacting the alleged victim if released, the New York Daily News reports.

Mitchell taught second grade at the Academic Charter School. She was arrested and charged as part of a joint investigation between the Special Victims unit and Lyndhurst Police Department, according to NorthJersey.com.

Her arrest generated quite a conversation online, from commenters joking about the lesbian relationship to others offering solid ideas on how schools could combat what’s seemingly become an epidemic of educators sexually abusing students in recent years.

“Sorry, but that story sounded hot, unless of course it’s your daughter,” Frank Bartolo posted to the Daily News.

“It shouldn’t matter if it’s your daughter,” Tom Fibi replied. “I find it disturbing that you find sex with minors hot.”

“I wish anyone who has a job working with children (under 18) be given psychological exams (similar to the police) to determine if they are fit to work with kids,” Holly Beatty wrote. “Maybe we could stop some of this insanity if we could.”

“Disgusting!” Southern bell added. “Far too many of these stories in today’s headlines.”
