WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump took a moment Friday to meet in the Oval Office with students from Victory Central Christian School in North Carolina and congratulate them on advancing to the final stages of a nationwide rocket-building competition with a craft built in his honor.

The students, nearly all of which are black, appeared elated to meet with the president and several shook his hand as they discussed their “Trump” rocket dominating the competition.

“I want to welcome the incredible students from Victory Central Christian School in Charlotte, North Carolina. What a state! Great city, great state!” Trump said in a video of the meeting posted to YouTube.

“These students competed against 810 teams in preliminary stages to advance to the National Team America Rocketry Challenge, the nation’s largest student model rocket contest,” he continued.

“They did fantastically well, and they’re down to about 100 (teams) now,” Trump said. “And guess what the name of the rocket is. It’s called Trump.”

“It better work well,” he said.

Trump explained that to qualify the student rocket was required to reach an altitude of 775 feet and stay in the air for 41 to 43 seconds.

“The Trump will compete tomorrow against 100 different teams in northern Virginia. So I just want to congratulate you, that’s a fantastic achievement,” the president said.

Trump went on to explain that the students were sponsored by the Aerospace Industries Association and the National Association of Rocketry.

“That looks like a mean machine you did right there,” Trump said admiring the large black rocket, emblazoned in gold with “TRUMP.”

“How did you come up with the name Trump?” the president asked.

“Simply because it conquers all,” a student standing behind Trump shot back, prompting the president to swing around in his chair to shake the student’s hand.

“They’re never going to put that on television,” Trump said to roaring laughs.

“I wish you a lot of luck. I’ll be watching,” he said.

“Do your best. And I’ll make you a deal, if you win, come on back and we’ll celebrate,” Trump said to applause.
