ALBANY, Ga. – A Georgia high schooler thought it would be a good idea to bring pot brownies to school to celebrate 4/20, the unofficial marijuana day on April 20.

He ended up in jail.

Police believe Justin Cruchfield, 19, laced brownies with marijuana and brought them to Albany High School to share with his friends in celebration of 4/20 yesterday. At least 15 students ate the brownies, some got sick, and some told school officials, who contacted police, WALB reports.

“Their behavior was a little erratic. A little change in behavior,” police chief Troy Conley told the news site. “They had increased pulse rates, heartbeats.”

Three students were rushed to the hospital, but were fine.

Police aren’t sure if students knew whether they were consuming pot brownies, or if the brownies contained other drugs. They plan to test the brownies before charging Chruchfield with a drug crime. In the meantime, the student faces one count of disruption of public school, the Associated Press reports.

“Although he’s told us that it was marijuana that was in the brownies we want to make sure that is the substance,” Conley told WALB. “It could’ve been laced with something else.”

The chief said detectives are continuing the investigation “because we want to know if the students knowingly or willingly participated in ingesting or eating the brownies.

“We’re getting conflicting stories at this time,” he said.

The brownie bust in Albany is the second in the last few weeks.

An 18-year-old student at Springboro High School in Ohio allegedly brought marijuana brownies to class and served them to several students and a teacher two weeks ago, News 2 reports.

One of the student told school officials there was something wacky about the treats.

“The student was cooperative during that investigation and was able to give us some evidence of a leftover brownie,” Springboro Police spokesman Nathan Anderkin told the news site. “That brownie was ultimately … booked into evidence (and) it’s going to be sent to our Miami Valley crime lab and analyzed just to confirm traces of marijuana in that brownie.”

The student who brought the brownies to school was suspended, and is expected to be expelled.

Police told ABC 22 those who knowingly ate the brownie to get high could also face charges.
