AURORA, Colo. – There is an education movement building in the “Twittersphere” in support of Carly McKinney, a Colorado high school math teacher who allegedly used Twitter to post racy pictures of herself and brag of grading papers while stoned.

McKinney was put on paid leave this week as Cherry Creek School District officials investigate her Twitter behavior.

But McKinney’s supporters are joining under the hashtags of #FreeCrunkBear and #TeamCrunkBear to call for the teacher’s reinstatement to the classroom.

The pro-McKinney hashtags are in reference to @Crunk_Bear, the Twitter handle McKinney allegedly used to post numerous pictures of herself in skimpy outfits, as well as pictures of herself smoking pot and drinking alcohol, according to news reports.

McKinney’s alleged Twitter account also contained boasts about grading papers while stoned and about having marijuana in her car in the teachers’ parking lot while a drug bust was taking place in the school.

The poster made numerous references to getting “crunk,” drinking alcohol and doing drugs.

McKinney told a local television station she created the account with a friend as a “parody.” McKinney claims she was unaware of some posts her friend made to the account, which has been deactivated.

The first-year math teacher has created a new account, @CarleyCrunkBear, which gained four thousand Twitter followers in one day, the Huffington Post reports.

“#CrunkBear spent her days working hard and her nights twerkin’ harder. #TeamCrunkBear #FreeCrunkBear,” Twitter user @EDM posted.

Two students at Overland High School, where McKinney worked, also appeared in a recent 9News broadcast about the teacher, wearing homemade “Free Crunk Bear” T-shirts and advocating for her reinstatement.

“The teacher is only six or five years older than our older students,” one student told the television station. “So we kind of relate to her on a personal level.”

“I don’t think she deserves to punished, period,” he said.

Teachers at the school told 9News they support McKinney’s right to free speech, and don’t believe she should be fired, although the incident has been a distraction at the school.

The Huffington Post reports McKinney didn’t break any laws, but Cherry Creek officials told the media they are investigating to determine if McKinney violated any of the district’s policies and plan to meet with the teacher before determining what, if any, action to take.
