MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas – A Texas school board heard the grumbling stomachs of hungry students and reacted by voting to protest the new National School Lunch Program menu.

The resolution adopted by trustees identified the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, which governs nutritional content and regulates school meals, as the culprit, reports the Daily Tribune.

The rationale cited by the board is that students have a grave distaste for the food.

“Students are presently eating less of the school meals due to the implemented legislation requirements,” the resolution stated.

The Mount Pleasant Intermediate School District reportedly received $258,008 in National School Lunch Program reimbursements in December. Despite the injection of cash, the board believes the money is following the same path as many school meals and going to waste.

“The (school lunch program legislation) will result in discarded meals, wasted money, and hungry, malnourished school children thus defeating the very goals that Congress intended when it passed the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010,” the resolution continues.

The resolution went on to call for lawmakers to amend requirements for school lunches do districts can be free to prepare nutritional foods that students will actually enjoy, the news report said
