Mellinger’s 50-year-old ex-husband and a former custodian with the school district, William Mellinger, was arrested just a week ago on similar charges for allegedly molesting three young girls, the Tribune-Review reports.

Michelle Mellinger was a special education teaching assistant at McKeesport Area High School last year when she solicited several male students for sex through text messages. The teacher told police she sent the victims, who ranged in age from 15 to 17, text messages to arrange for sex sessions at her White Oak apartment, including missives in which she apparently admits to being a pedophile, WPXI reports.

“Michelle Mellinger approached an 11th-grade student and asked him if he had seen the movie ‘Bucket List,’ Assistant District Attorney Julie Koren” told the Tribune-Review. “She then explained the movie to the student and ‘she told him that he was on her bucket list.’”

The teaching assistant later took the teen to her home for sex, and then began to arrange other trysts with underage students last year. She drove her victims to her apparent for the encounters, police said.

In one text message Mellinger told a student, “Wow, you look amazing – I just become a pedophile.”

In another she wrote “I prefer younger people to older people.”

Mellinger’s victims apparently passed the teacher’s contact information to other students, who also contacted the teacher and arranged for sex.

“Mellinger told one student ‘she was not having sex with students anymore’ when he contacted her but arranged a meeting a few days later, Koren said,” according to the Tribune-Review.

PennLive reports school officials notified police after a staff member overheard students talking about the teacher’s sextracurricular activities. She was put on leave and later arrested last October.

Police report Mellinger had sex with a total of four students and solicited others. She’s now undergoing a psychological evaluation to determine if she’s a violent sexual predator as defined by Pennsylvania law.

Mellinger faces up to 50 years in prison when she’s scheduled to be sentenced in June.

Her ex-husband, meanwhile, stands accused of molesting three young girls at a friend’s house and at his home in White Oak. He was previously a school custodian, but has not worked for the school district for about a year, WPXI reports.
