PORT OF PALM BEACH, Fla. – Three Palm Beach County School employees are under investigation after students from Suncoast High School’s band and cheering squad performed at a Hillary Clinton campaign event.

Former President Bill Clinton held a rally for his wife at the Port of Palm Beach Cruise Terminal Monday that featured the school’s marching band and cheer squad in full uniform, bused in by special request, The American Mirror reports.

Bethany Bowra, producer for The John Cardillo show, documented the spectacle for the conservative radio program.

“I was standing on the corner outside the Bill Clinton event in Riviera Beach, Florida, on Monday, when a school bus labeled ‘Palm Beach County District Schools #0253’ pulled in filled with students wearing band uniforms and cheerleading outfits,” Bowra wrote.

“The kids got off the bus at the front of the event with their instruments and the bus left, only to return a few moments later with another bus load of students. The band played outside the event before it began, then moved inside the continued to play while the crowd waited for the event to begin.”

Bowra continued:

The students seemed excited and eager to be a part of the event.  They were smiling and enjoyed the incredibly loud music they got to play inside the small venue.

Following the former President’s speech, they even started a chant of “we want Bill!” to encourage him to come back out and sign more autographs.

They were certainly a spectacle– 99% of other attendees were old enough to be my grandparents.

“An official familiar with the matter” told CBS 12 that Port of Palm Beach Commissioner and former congressional candidate Jean Enright requested Suncoast High School students participate in the political event, a violation of district policy, without coordinating with the Clinton campaign.

The student field trip occurred on a day when schools were closed.

Enright said the Clinton campaign requested students to perform through the vice chair of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party, and she simply complied.

“The vice chair of the party called me and asked if I would assist by getting a band,” she told the news site. “So I called Suncoast and that was it. I only did what I was asked to do.”

Palm Beach County superintendent Robert Avossa told the Sun-Sentinel the district is now investigating three employees – the principal, band director and cheer coach – because “it’s clearly against district policy to be engaged in any political activity” during a student trip.

Avossa said band director Ernest Brown clearly indicated that the field trip was to a “Hillary Clinton campaign event. So no one was trying to use smoke and mirrors to fool anyone.

“They went through the process,” he said, adding that the cheer coach, as well as principal Linda Cartlidge, also approved the trip.

Avossa said officials are now investigating to determine if the employees were aware that the trip violated district policy against participation in partisan events.

“I don’t know that yet,” he told the Sun-Sentinel. “It’s an open investigation.”
