CYPRESS, Texas – Officials at the Cy-Fair Independent School District are filing a complaint with U.S. Department of Agriculture after students exposed a serious problem with their government lunches: maggots in the strawberries.

Students at Cypress Springs High School posted videos to Twitter on Tuesday that forced the district to take action against the USDA-certified supplier, KTRK reports.

“Everybody got some explaining to do why they giving kids strawberries INFESTED WITH MAGGOTS,” Twitter user Honntyyy posted around 1:15 p.m.

“You need to keep it,” a student is heard telling the girl in the video.

“I am, I’m dead ass,” she responded.

“Put that … in a bag,” another student chimed in.

The 8-second video was retweeted more than 380 times, and caught the attention of several news agencies and district officials.

The complaint comes amid a flood of criticism in recent years about the quality of food served through the National School Lunch Program, which imposed a host of strict regulations on participating schools at the behest of former first lady Michelle Obama.

The “healthy” food regulations represented Obama’s effort to crack down on childhood obesity through bureaucracy, and resulted in more than 1.4 million students dropping out of the program and a $1 billion increase in food waste.

Students also took to Twitter to vent their frustrations about the crappy Michelle O lunches, many using the hashtag #ThanksMichelleObama to hold the first lady accountable for the failures.

The strawberry maggot video is also prompting strong reactions from students and others.

“The teachers think we be lying about how disgusting the food is,” Twitter user “dime” wrote.

“That’s nasty af,” APEXx posted.

“Michelle Obama prolyl rolling around in her sleep rn,” “Sad and Bouje” added.

“So glad I’m not at cysprings at home Jesus Christ I would’ve died,” adriiannnaaa wrote.

“My poor babies at work eat this shitty ass lunch and breakfast at school, I wish I can just pack them all a lunch,” young habibi posted.

Cy-Fair ISD officials released a statement about the incident, promising to file a complaint against its USDA-certified supplier.

“It is a frozen product and we serve it partially thawed/frozen to students. Cy-Fair Nutrition Services does not open the individually packaged strawberries we receive,” the statement read. “They are served in the original packaging we receive them in and are opened by the students.”

Honntyyy later posted that “the school asked me to delete my tweets because they weren’t good for the publicity of the school.”

Instead, Honntyyy pinned the video to the top of her page.
