AURORA, Colo. – A Colorado father is calling a teacher at his daughter’s school out for passing bizarre notes to the 7-year-old child because the school refuses to take action.

Carry Reed believes a fourth grade teacher at Aurora Academy Charter School was attempting to groom his daughter by passing notes to the girl on the playground. The girl, who is not in the teacher’s class, showed Reed a note she received with pictures of the teacher – referred to by first name – with his tongue out, and nicknames like “stinky butt” and “crazy head” attributed to the girl, The Root reports.

“Kind of a peculiar letter from a teacher,” Reed told Fox 31 of the first note.

“As I read over the letter, it was concerning since it had the teacher’s face and he was using pet names to refer to her,” he said. “We felt it was inappropriate and grooming behaviors.”

But before Reed could take the issue up with school officials, his daughter came home with a second note the next day with similarly odd messages.

“This note had more pictures and continued with what the father called ‘grooming behavior.’ It included a poem asking for the girl’s ‘friendship’ and thoughts like ‘you make me smile,’” according to Fox 31.

Fox aired part of one of the notes, which was decorated with a young girl holding a flower at the top:

I am here today to say something to you

I could tell on Friday you were feeling blue

But guess what I was wrong

So I’m here to sing you a song

A song to say

I hope you have a good day

You make me smile ok

So please forgive me

I hope our friendship can be key …

Reed, who has a background in law enforcement, said he contacted school officials about the letters and told Fox 31 they told him they’d conduct a full investigation.

The next day, Aurora Academy principal sent him an email stating “(the teacher) understands his behavior was inappropriate. He assures me it will not happen again.”

That didn’t sit well with Reed.

He believes the teacher was targeting his daughter for sexual contact, Fox 31 reports.

“Given the situation and the concerning nature of the situation, we just wanted to see the school take a little bit more action, and be a little bit more proactive,” Reed said.

Fox 31 contacted school officials, who said the teacher remains employed at the Academy. They would not discuss what, if any, disciplinary action was taken against him.

Reed said highlights why it’s important to be an involved parent.

“You really need to be prudent with what your kids are bringing home, making sure you review everything,” he said.
