TRENTON, N.J. – New Jersey’s State Board of Examiners has suspended or revoked the licenses of at least 5 educators over the last month for accusations or convictions of student sex abuse.

The Board recently named six former teachers who lost their credentials in June, including so-called educators who allegedly sent explicit text messages, fondled, raped and molested students, NJ 101.5 reports.

Former Parsippany Hills High School English teacher Jenna Leahey relinquished her teaching license following her April conviction for endangering the welfare of a child.

Leahey alleged the then 16-year-old student pressured her into a sexual relationship in 2013, and said the student “sexually assaulted” her, but the teacher’s text messages to the student seemed to contradict her story in court, the Daily Record reported in April.

The texts: “I’m horny all the time,” “It’s wrong; I still want it though,” “You are one lucky kid,” and “God I want u, I know I shouldn’t.”

She ultimately received five years in prison as part of a plea deal, and will be eligible for parole after 13 months, according to the news site.

Collier High School special needs teacher Elizandra Martinez also lost her substitute teaching credential this month after admitting in April to kissing and fondling the breast of a 17-year-old female student.

Martinez is scheduled to be sentenced today after pleading guilty to fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, and she’s expected to receive probation with the requirement to register as a sex offender, NJ 101.5 reports.

The State Board of Examiners also revoked the license of former Harmony Township School math teacher Joshua Mohlmann after he admitted in late April to a nearly seven-year relationship with a student that began in 2008, when the girl was only 14 years old.

Mohlmann pleaded guilty to a count of institutional sexual assault and two other crimes and is expected to be sentenced to two to four years in state prison at his sentencing hearing in July. Mohlmann will have to register as a sex offender for 25 years, or for life if the judge deems him a sexually violent predator, The Morning Call reports.

Former Lena Edwards Academic Charter School teacher Lauren Coyle-Mitchell’s teaching license was suspended over her pending trial on charges she sexually abused a 15-year-old disabled girl in 2015.

Coyle-Mitchell faces charges of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and second-degree child endangerment, NJ 101.5 reports.

“Prosecutors say the abuse happened at the teacher’s Lyndhurst home when she was 31,” according to the news site. “She was arrested again last year after prosecutors say she violated a court order by contacting the alleged victim.”

The State Board of Examiners suspended the teaching license for former South Plainfield High School English teacher John Q. Angeline, who was also an official with the South Plainfield Education Association, after prosecutors alleged he “unlawfully and knowingly photographed or filmed a child in a prohibited sex act” in 2015, Tap Into South Plainfield reports.

Angeline allegedly sexually abused the 15-year-old boy for years starting in 2010, and is now awaiting trial on charges of aggravated criminal sexual contact, criminal sexual contact, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, NJ.com reports.

The state board suspended Luke Bakula’s elementary teaching certificate in June, as well.

Bakula spent only a few months as a paraprofessional with Ringwood schools in 2015 before he was arrested and indicted on charges of first-degree aggravated criminal sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and third-degree child endangerment.

Bakula’s alleged crimes occurred in 2005, a decade before he was hired in Ringwood, and involve the alleged rape of a 9-year-old child, NJ 101.5 reports.
