NEW YORK – According to the New York Post, last week “will go down as a depraved chapter in public-school history.”

That’s because four new instances came to light of New York City teachers sexually preying on children.

The first incident involves Julie Warning, a 26-year-old female teacher who allowed herself to be seduced by an 18-year-old student. Apparently, students had a $400 bet over who could get to her first, the Post reports.

Another female teacher, 36-year-old Erin Sayar, had an affair with a 16-year-old male student she was supposed to be tutoring.

And last month, Margaret Ann Riordan, a 31-year-old high school history teacher, “was sued for having sex with a 16-year-old kid … and for allegedly introducing him to ‘sexual positions, self-hatred, depression and suicide,’ the boy’s mother claims,” according to the Post.

But the worst offender is Thomas Gibbons, a 59-year-old teacher who was arrested last week on charges that he recently had sexual contact with a 9-year-old relative.

Here’s how the New York Post’s Andrea Peyser describes the situation:

“Would it surprise you to learn that Gibbons – a tenured New York City special-ed teacher – was once arrested for allegedly grabbing a student by the hair … slamming her against a wall and holding a gun to her chest?

“He was mad that the child tried to break off a sexual relationship that began when she was 15. Guess what. He’s still teaching!”

Gibbons was allowed to stay in the classroom after an arbitrator found the evidence against him to be insufficient for dismissal.

Peyser blames the ridiculous arbitration system for keeping these monsters in the classroom (or at least on the city’s payroll), and rightly identifies the local teachers union as the ultimate culprit.

“Teachers are not swiftly fired when they’re caught with their pants down,” Peyser writes. “Instead, the United Federation of Teachers (New York’s teachers union) backs an arbitration system, run by ninnies, that does back flips to prevent teachers from getting ousted.”

These disgusting stories reinforce the need to find an efficient way of getting perverted educators out of the classroom as soon as possible. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is pushing for a new law that would allow the head of the city’s schools to fire predatory teachers immediately, thus bypassing the ridiculous arbitration system.

The UFT opposes the law change, of course.

Peyser’s conclusion?

“Get rid of the arbitrators at once! Don’t serve up another generation of kids to monsters.”

We agree wholeheartedly.
