CLOVIS, N.M. – School officials in Clovis, New Mexico are deciding what to do with several drug abusers they recently busted on campus.

They’ve already suspended at least three Marshall Middle School students for 10 days after they were alleged to have snorted Smarties, and the boys could possibly be expelled for possessing the “drugs,” according to a letter sent home to their parents.

The teens were ordered by school officials to appear at a fact finding hearings to learn their fate for allegedly breaking the school’s drug policy. The students were advised that they should bring their attorney with them, KRQE reports.

“I was in shock. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and I didn’t know anyone could do anything like that with a Smartie,” said Kelly Cook, mother of accused student Andrew Stonelake, 13.

Stonelake told his mother he and his friends weren’t snorting the Smarties at all.

“He explained there was no inhaling or snorting of any kind. That they were crushing it up and blowing smoke out at each other. That they were horse playing,” Cook told KRQE.

School officials apparently don’t really care. Smarties are the same as drugs, they contend, though there doesn’t seem to be any school policy that supports their position.

“News 13 asked the district Thursday what policy they’re using in this case and if they have a specific rule against Smarties at school. They say they couldn’t comment and referred us to their student handbook. News 13 looked at it thoroughly and nowhere could we find Smarties classified as a drug or even a mention of the candy,” the news site reports.

“There was no warning of any kind stating that they weren’t allowed to have these things,” Cook said.

Stonelake attended the hearing to defend his actions Nov. 19, and school officials are mulling further punishment.

Many parents who read the story online were shocked by school officials’ nonsensical accusations.

“The administration at this school should be IMMEDIATELY FIRED for gross stupidity, incompetence, and idiocy. But instead, I suspect more school districts and the boneheaded retards who administer them, will pick up on this new tool of control and totalitarianism,” davids64 posted.

“Because, apparently, being a school administrator today means that you are required to NOT use your brain to actually make decisions in the best interests of your students.”

Poster “kindness” also thought the possible punishment is ridiculous.

“Good thing the kid wasn’t armed with a bubble pipe,” kindness wrote.
