PLAINWELL, Mich. – Plainwell High School teacher Kelly Laker was arrested Monday on charges of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a student and obstruction of justice.

On the surface, that’s not a big surprise. Schools across the nation have been cursed with an outbreak of teachers sexually abusing students in recent years.

But the alleged details surrounding this case are particularly disturbing.

Laker, a special education teacher at the school, has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a special needs student.

The situation came to light after several witnesses reported seeing Laker kissing the forehead of one of his students in a back room attached to his classroom, according to Wood TV 8.

The student was later interviewed and went into further detail about their relationship. She told police she would often show up before class to do homework and Laker would bring her into the back room and kiss her on the lips.

She also claimed Laker frequently picked her up and instructed her to wrap her legs around him and kiss him in an erotic manner.

Wood TV 8 also reports that Laker would take the student’s hand and place it on his private area. The student admitted that this contact occurred on more than one occasion.

The parents of the student became involved when her mother allegedly found love letters written to the student from Laker.

The student told police that Laker often “asked her for sex” and said he “wanted to be her first.”

The teacher allegedly wrote the date of her graduation on the whiteboard, and told her he wanted to have sex with her then.

According to Mlive.com, Laker called the student the night before she was to be interviewed by police and instructed her to adamantly deny everything, leading to the obstruction of justice charge.

Laker, who was placed on administrative leave, could receive up to 15 years in prison.
