COLLEGE PARK, Md. – A University of Maryland sorority is creating another media frenzy after inscribing a racial epithet on a birthday cake for one of its members.

Delta Gamma, which forced out one of its members last year for an obscenity laced email to her sorority sisters that went viral, is now scrambling to explain why a member posted an Instagram picture of a sister’s three-layer 21st birthday case with the message “Suck a n***a d*ck” scrawled on the bottom, according to the New York Daily News.

“The offensive lettering might be a reference to a Three Six Mafia song of the same name, or a line from Lil’ Wayne’s ‘Burn,’” the New York Daily News reports. “At least 77 people liked the photo before user @afoxxie deleted her profile, college entertainment blog Plusefeedz reported.”

In the picture, the Delta Gama birthday girl, who is not named, poses with the cupcake stand cake, which is also loaded with cheap wine and beer, with her left hand blocking some of the lettering.

The accompanying caption reads: “afoxie TWENTY-ONE. 3rd insta of your and I regret nothing. #BOOM #****** #shamber”

A tweet from the University of Maryland Department of Fraternity & Sorority Life said it’s “aware of an insensitive post from a community member and are addressing it with the chapter as it does not align with our Greek values,” the Baltimore Sun reports.

Delta Gama’s University of Maryland chapter issued a statement about the picture to Facebook late last week, according to the Mirror.

“We have become aware of an unacceptable Instagram post by a member of our chapter. The Fraternity volunteers and staff are working with our chapter at the University of Maryland at this time to hold this member accountable,” the statement read.

“Delta Gamma Fraternity is a dynamic organization committed to diversity and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religious affiliation, color, creed, national origin, sexual orientation, marital status or physical disability. All efforts are in place to guarantee those selected for membership are committed to living our values.

“Delta Gamma stands for high ideals of friendship, promoting cultural and educational interests, a true sense of social responsibility and developing the best qualities of character.”

That’s been more difficult task in recent years.

University of Maryland’s Delta Gamma was also in the spotlight last year when an email from a former member, Rebecca Martinson, to her sorority sisters went viral after it was posted online, according to the Daily News.

Martinson email in April 2013 berated her sorority sisters for “LITREALLY being so f*****g AWKWARD and so f*****g BORING” at fraternity events.

That email, which contained 41 F-bombs, was an embarrassment for Delta Gamma, but many thought it was pretty funny.

“The email has inspired a number of parodies and readings. ‘Boardwalk Empire’ actor Michael Shannon’s dramatic recitation of the later for the website ‘Funny or Die’ is particularly popular, as is the one featuring Barbie,” according to the Daily News.
