WESTWOOD, Mass. – A 23-year-old Massachusetts man has filed a lawsuit against his former Spanish teacher, former principal and school district, claiming the teacher used pain-killing drugs to lure him into a sexual relationship when he was a high school student.

The plaintiff, referred to as “John Doe,” suffers from a painful skin disease. He claims that former Westwood High School Spanish teacher Jamie Ashworth gave him special attention when he became her student in the tenth grade, then volunteered to become his study advisor the next year, according to a news report from the Westwood Herald News.

The lawsuit claims that Ashworth offered him pain-killing drugs to help him deal with his discomfort, but only in return for sexual favors. It also claims that Doe’s mother informed former high school Principal Emily Parks that Ashworth had been leaving text and phone messages for the boy at all hours, and that other teachers in the building were aware of the relationship.

At a Tuesday press conference, Westwood Superintendent John Antonucci said the district investigated the relationship and found no evidence of sexual activity.

That, of course, begs a few obvious questions, like whether the district had the good sense to turn the case over to police, who are better at investigating these types of situations and have no conflicting loyalties. Are they required to alert the police in Massachusetts, like they are in so many other states?

Ashworth reportedly acknowledged that she had a sexual relationship with John Doe, but that it began after he graduated, the news report said.
