MOSCOW – Americans are still debating over why Islamic radicals attacked our Libyan embassy and killed four Americans last week, including a U.S. ambassador.

Some blame the attacks on an anti-Islamic film that’s been circulating around the Internet, while others say the killings were in response to U.S. policies in the Middle East.

Leftist blogger David Swanson offers a third option: The American embassy was attacked because we are not spending enough on public education.

Come again?

Swanson argues that Americans have “stopped taxing billionaires and corporations, and we’re funding war-preparation so generously that we’re sparking a global arms race that will eventually generate some enemies with which to justify the war preparation … .”

In other words, the embassy was attacked because Americans have given too much money to the Pentagon and not enough to your local government school.

Using that logic, Swanson’s solution is obvious: Spend more money on public education for a safer America!

“Funding teachers doesn’t … antagonize the world or kill anyone,” Swanson writes.

“Funding teachers doesn’t get our embassies attacked in nations we’ve ‘liberated’ and leave our Secretary of State wondering out loud how someone could attack our embassy in a city we’d rescued  … Funding teachers could actually help us develop a society of people with something better to do than attack each other’s primitive superstitions,” he argues.

Teachers would be “transformed beyond imagination” if only Americans would give them “a fraction of a percent of what we blow on weaponizing the world. …,” Swanson writes.

Like all apologists for the Education Establishment, Swanson never gets around to revealing exactly how much money Americans need to spend for our government schools to properly educate students. All Swanson knows is that teachers need more, more, more!

Swanson and friends ignore the fact that student achievement has flat-lined in America (and in some cases regressed) even as education spending has continued to increase for decades. He doesn’t address those facts, and if he did, he would probably end with a screed against standardized testing. These leftists have an excuse for everything .

He spends the remainder of his diatribe arguing for stronger unions and more labor strikes (which are tools for “organizing and radicalizing”) and concludes by announcing, “We are all Chicago teachers!”

After reading Swanson’s blog, we’re left with a few questions:

Mr. and Mrs. Average Classroom Teacher, are you comfortable with the fact that your union is being led and/or influenced by people like Swanson?

Are these the values you want to support with your dues dollars?

And Mr. and Mrs. Average American Taxpayer, are you comfortable with the fact that people like Swanson are training your teachers and influencing the curriculum in your local school?

Freaks like David Swanson are free to believe whatever they want, but so are you. Maybe it’s time to stand up, speak up … and push back.
