WASHINGTON, D.C. – Students are continuing to use the #ThanksMichelleObama Twitter hashtag to bring attention to their skimpy school lunches.

They’re connecting the paltry servings and unknown substances served as school lunches with the champion of the “healthy” National School Lunch Program overhaul: First Lady Michelle Obama.

Nationally, schools spend an estimated $3.5 million per day on wasted food.

The School Nutrition Association reports the federal regulations have created $1.22 BILLION in new expenses for schools, roughly the equivalent of the average pay for 23,000 high school teachers.
