ALBANY, Ga. – A Georgia middle school teacher has been arrested and charged with child sexual exploitation after police searched his apartment and found a desk top computer with what was described as a “large amount” of child pornography.

Brian Owen Brannen, an eight-grade history teacher at Radium Springs Middle School, was being held at the Dougherty County jail until his arraignment, according to a news report from the Albany Herald.

The police search of the apartment was the result of a tip. The computer was found running with a file containing child pornography visible to police, according to the news report. Brannen resides alone in the apartment.

Authorities did not know at press time whether any of the images on the computer involved any students that Brannen had worked with, the news report said.

Brannen had recently been reassigned from another school to Radium Springs and was working in an administrative support role and currently had no classroom duties.

The teacher has been placed on administrative leave from his job with pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.
