BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. – A former Georgia middle school teacher who was arrested last month for an alleged sexual relationship with a student in 2013 now faces a second case involving another student from 2015.

Former Union County Middle School physical education teacher Shawnetta Reece was arrested last month for child molestation and sexual assault of a 15 year old student, an investigation that allegedly uncovered a second inappropriate relationship with a different student years later, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

In August, “the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the Union County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation into Reece after receiving information she was sexually involved with a former student,” the agency reports. “The GBI was able to determine that former middle school physical education teacher Reece, engaged I sexual conduct with a 15 year old student in 2013. The student was moving from the 8th grade to the 9th grade at the time.”

Details are scarce, but CBI investigators re-arrested the 40-year-old former teacher and track coach last Thursday after additional allegations came to light from the initial investigation, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

“Reece was charged with sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority after the discovery of an additional victim in the case.  The continued investigation into Reece revealed that she engaged in sexual conduct with an 18 year old student in 2015.   The student was a high school senior at the time of the incident,” according to the CBI.

The agency reports Reece was arrested at her home, but did not provide any other details.

Union County Jail records show Reece spent two days in the clink before posting a $10,000 bond.

She now faces a total of two charges, both for sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority.

The Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney is prosecuting the cases, WXIA reports.

Reece’s legal troubles are only the latest in what’s become an epidemic of educators sexually abusing students, including the recent arrests of several female educators for sexual trysts with multiple students.

Her arrest came the day after Arkansas’ Marked Tree High School teacher Jessie Lorene Goline was arrested for alleged sex acts with at least four students, including two in the same night, EAGnews reports.

Students in that case allegedly told investigators the 25-year-old teacher sent sexually charged text messages, including images posing in a thong, and picked them up from school for sex at her apartment in Jonesboro, according to KAIT.

Marked Tree officials learned about the teacher’s alleged sexploits with students when a parent allegedly threated to “do bodily harm to one of their teachers,” court records show.

“After notifying the superintendent, the school’s principal was in the process of notifying the Arkansas Crimes Against Children hotline when Goline came into the office and started crying, the affidavit said,” according to KAIT.
