DESTREHAN, La. – Destrehan High School geography teacher Kimberly Naquin thought she was busted when officials announced more than a year ago that they were investigating an unidentified teacher for having sex with a student, police said.

Naquin, daughter of St. Charles Parish School Board President Dennis Naquin, temporarily distanced herself from the 16-year-old student he was allegedly having sex with at the time. When police later arrested teachers Shelley Dufresne, 33, and Rachel Respess, 25, for alleged group sex with a male student, the teacher apparently thought she was in the clear and resumed the relationship, police told NOLA.com.

“From my understanding, they panicked and they separated for a short time when they heard about that case,” Kenner Police Department Lt. Brian McGregor told the news site.

Naquin, 26, now faces criminal charges in two police jurisdictions – St. Charles Parish and Kenner – for alleged sexual contact with her female student on at least 10 occasions at her former apartment in Kenner and her classroom at Destrehan High, The New Orleans Advocate reports.

Police allege Naquin admitted to the affair with the student after the alleged victim gave police a description of the inside of her apartment and “cut marks” on the teacher’s body that would only be visible if undressed.

Police believe the sexual contact started before Halloween in 2014 at the teacher’s apartment in Kenner, and the two hooked again weeks later, after Thanksgiving. The two separated, but resumed the relationship in January 2015, and met for numerous encounters at the Kenner apartment and Destrehan High School until August 2015.

In police interviews last Thursday, Naquin allegedly “admitted to the … sexual acts with the student who she knew was only 16,” according to a police affidavit cited by the Advocate.

Naquin was charged with 10 counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile in Jefferson Parish, as well as counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and prohibited sexual conduct between a student and educator in St. Charles Parish. She was briefly jailed in Jefferson Parish on a $100,000, but was released because of jail overcrowding, the news site reports.

Naquin, who is currently suspended from her job without pay, is the fourth at the school to face criminal charges for sexual activity with students in recent years.

Dufresne pleaded guilty in a plea deal in St. Charles parish and continues to face charges in Jefferson Parish. Dufresne is the daughter of 29th Judicial District Court Judge Emile St. Pierre. Respess was charged with failure to report her alleged sexcapades with Dufresne and the male student, but not with a sex crime, according to the Advocate.

A male teacher was also busted for alleged sexual activity with a female student in 2008.

Former Destrehan High band and music teacher Byron Toups pleaded guilty in 2009 to malfeasance, intimidation of a witness and simple battery of two students and sentenced to a year in jail for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old girl, and trying to kiss another 17-year-old female student, the news site reports.
