COVINGTON, Ky. – “Passing the trash” may be a crude way of describing the process by which predatory teachers circulate among school districts, but it’s certainly a fitting description of Kenneth David Owens’ career.

The former band director will serve a 10-year prison sentence after he pleaded guilty on Monday to sex charges involving two different students at two different schools, reports WKRC

Owens also surrendered his teaching certificate as part of the plea deal.

The former teacher was forced to resign from Grant County schools, after a former student claimed he sexually abused her. Unbelievably, Owens was allowed to move on to another school – Beechwood High School – where he abused another student.

All told, Owens is facing charges in three different counties, but Monday’s plea bargain covers all charges, WKRC reports.

In court, the judge cut straight to the point, asking Owens what he is guilty of – at least during his time at Beechwood High School.

“I had sexual intercourse with a female under the age of 16,” he admitted.

The relationship took place between 2004 and 2006 with a girl who was 14 at the time. Owens was her band director and the affair reportedly continued until she graduated, the story reports.

Owens’ wife was also sentenced to three years’ probation for charges of tampering with a witness.

Personally, we’d like to see consequences for school administrators who made it possible for Owens to quietly leave their district only to continue his abusive ways in another school.

Phys ed teacher gets far too physical

Meghan Eagan, 25, a physical education teacher at Crosby High School in Waterbury, Conn., was arrested on four counts of sexual assault, reports the New York Daily News.

Eagan and the male student allegedly had a sexual relationship during December through January.

The sexual encounters reportedly occurred at the teacher’s home.

Eagan has been placed on administrative leave and posted the $100,000 bond.

She is expected to be in court next week.
