BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – A Florida woman faces a child abuse charge after she allegedly beat a young girl with a belt over her bad grades, then sent her to school with a shame message scrawled on a t-shirt.

The victim arrived at West Hernando Middle School last Friday wearing a white t-shirt with a message about her failing grades scrawled on the front and back in black magic marker, WPTV.com reports.

The suspected author of the message, Melany Joyce Alexander, is also believed to have beaten the child excessively with a belt, allegedly the latest mistake in the woman’s long history of criminal behavior.

“Unless you are helping me with this goal … back off!!! My eating French fries and being a social butterfly is over because I know why my parents send me to school. I know the importance of my education. I will learn. I will listen to my teachers and be respectful at all times. I will do these things because I am failing (redacted) due to my social life. Want to be my friend help me by not!!!”

When school officials provided the girl with a new shirt, they noticed bruises on her shoulders, arms and wrists, and contacted police, according to the news site.

The girl told police the injuries were from a white “leather belt with holes with metal divots, which left clear impressions in several places to include both arms, neck, chest, back and legs,” according to an arrest affidavit cited by WPTV.

“The deputy and a representative from the Department of Children and Families concluded the marks from the belt ‘appeared to be excessive,’” according to the news site.

Officers questioned Melany Joyce Alexander about the bruises and shame t-shirt, and she was initially uncooperative but later admitted to hitting the girl. The exact nature of Alexander’s relationship with the victim is unclear.

Alexander, 31, was arrested and taken to the Hernando County Detention Center, according to Fox 13.

It’s a building she’s visited frequently in recent years.

In 2011, a 27-year-old Alexander was charged with stalking and criminal mischief for harassing, pranking and attempting to intimidate the family of a 10-year-old girl who allegedly slighted her on Facebook.

In retaliation, Alexander allegedly stalked the family for five months, online and in person. She allegedly hacked into Facebook and email accounts, attempted to run a child on a bicycle off the road with her car, stuffed the family’s mailbox with raw meat, and ran over their mailbox with her car, Hernando Today reported.

Victim Jody “Molter said Alexander hacked into her Facebook account and posted obscene messages and photos.

“At one point, Alexander set it up to look like Molter was hosting a swinger’s party and included her cell phone number on the Internet posting, Molter said,” according to the news site.

County jail records show Alexander served at least 55 days in jail in that case.

Alexander was arrested again in 2014 for a probation violation, and served another 101 days behind bars.

In the most recent arrest, Alexander served two days before she was released on a $2,500 bond pending criminal proceedings.

She was ordered to have no contact with the victim, and not to return to the residence.
