OREGON CITY, Ore. – Federal investigators contend a Oregon City School District special education teacher produced child pornography, and kept detailed plans on how he planned to drug and abuse other children.

McGlothlinAdapted physical education instructional assistant James I. McGlothlin, 39, is expected to be arraigned on production of child pornography charges today in federal court after federal, local and state agencies executed a search warrant on his Portland home and seized electronics and other disturbing materials, The Oregonian reports.

Court records show authorities were alerted to McGlothlin last November when he attempted to download a video from a child porn website, which triggered the involvement of the Interagency Child Exploitation Prevention Team, also known as INTERCEPT.

Agents with INTERCEPT and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security conducted the search last Tuesday and recovered laptop computers, hard drives, thumb drives, CDs, cell phones, a camcorder, iPad and digital camera. In the garage, they found a laptop “open and running” near a work area adjacent to a locked filing cabinet, KOIN reports.

The laptop included images of suspected child pornography, and the cabinet contained other potentially incriminating materials including a bottle of children’s Benadryl, a latex cast of a child’s hands with suspected pubic hair in it, 11 pairs of children’s underpants, children’s swimsuits, digital media, and two photos of prepubescent girls, according to the news site.

The photos, which were “enlarged and were almost life-sized, and had been cut out to include … the girls’ heads and shoulders,” were of family friends. One of the girls is 8 years old.

Also in the cabinet, police recovered a “homemade, headless child-size doll made out of cardboard and dressed in children’s clothes” with underwear on over the clothes, KOIN reports.

Investigators said five image files recovered, as well as five video files, included an adult male with their identity obscured and a female toddler. McGlothlin “graphically relives the sexual abuse of the infant depicted” in the video in a “short essay” saved on his laptop, police allege.

In another essay, McGlothlin wrote about his plans to babysit three children, and to drug two oldest with Benadryl so he could abuse the youngest. A third essay described sexual abuse of a 12-year-old developmentally disabled student in his swim therapy class, according to court records cited by The Oregonian.

“As educators, child advocates, and parents, we are all sickened by the details unfolding from this investigation,” Oregon City School District Superintendent Larry Didway said in a statement Sunday. “It is devastating to learn that one of our employees who was entrusted with the care of some of our most vulnerable students may have victimized children.”

Several folks who allegedly spoke with McGlothlin in the days since police raided his home contend the former instructional assistant called them to confess his misdeeds. McGlothlin was suspended from his job when school officials were informed of the investigation Feb. 16, and he was arrested last Friday, KOIN reports.

The Oregonian reports:

A detective spoke to the grandmother of one of the photographed children on Thursday. The relative said she spoke to McGlothlin twice on the phone after police raided his home two days before. She said McGlothlin confessed to inappropriate behavior including looking at child pornography and having sexual interest in her pre-teen granddaughter and his friend’s toddler.

One of McGlothlin’s friends told investigators that he also received a call from the 39-year-old and that he confessed to molesting the friend’s toddler. The friend told police that McGlothin babysat his daughter once in January.
