CASSELBERRY, Fla. – Federal agents with the U.S. Department of Education and the Office of Inspector General raided the Institute of Technical Arts in Casselberry, Florida Thursday, though the reason remains unclear.

“One caller was telling us this morning that agents actually came in with their guns drawn,” WESH 2 reporter Bob Kealing said.

Federal agents evacuated three buildings at the school, where students learn to become veterinarian technicians and pet groomers, with a sealed warrant around 9 a.m. yesterday, though agents initially retained employees while they seared through school records, ClickOrlando.com reports.

Classes for students were canceled, and “investigators removed people from the administration offices and agents could be seen hauling boxes out of the building,” according to WFTV.

The news site reports agents also raided the home of the Institute’s CEO, Laura Lundberg, and employees are concerned.

“We are kind of up in the air. We haven’t been notified as to what is going on or whether or not we will be returning to our jobs. This was a complete shock and surprise to all of us,” employee Summer O’Connor told WFTV. “My biggest concern is mainly the students because that is our priority.”

The Institute was established in 1988, and houses a dog grooming clinic on site.

Both are shut down until further notice, O’Connor said.

A sign posted on the door Thursday read simply: “School is closed today,” WESH reports.

“One student I spoke with said she loves the school here and has no idea why the feds would raid the facility,” Kealing said.

Some of the folks who commented online provided some insight.

“I went there on a job interview once. This place is a joke. I was asked to help them write educational plans so they could expand their programs and enroll more students,” thebarkingcat posted to the ClickOrlando site. “The owner is barely literate herself and I knew I would never make it working for someone so stupid.

“I got a really bad feeling about this place. I left shortly after arriving and told them I didn’t think it would be a good fit,” thebarkingcat added. “It’s like the blind leading the blind there, and they’re using taxpayers’ dollars to do it.”

Others confirmed thebarkingcat’s experience.

“Ha ha!” Girlwithsomethoughts wrote. “I went there for an interview too! Didn’t like the place.”

“This place is a joke,” commenter CknMomma posted. “They had many employees, who were concerned about the shady ‘goings on’ there, walk out after just a short time, me being one of them. I agree with everything you wrote in your comment above. I only hope that the students will be refunded their tuition somehow.”
