PEARLAND, Texas – A Texas elementary teacher resigned recently after he was allegedly busted taking pictures up the skirts of young girls in his class.

A student told police an 8-year-old female classmate was sitting at a “guided reading” table at Laura Bush Elementary School in the Houston suburb of Pearland when he “observed (the teacher) take his iPhone … hold it underneath the skirt of the victim,” ABC 13 reports.

The teacher’s name was not released by the media because he is not yet charged with a crime.

“Immediately upon learning of the accusation, the campus called Pasadena (Independent School District) police, removed the teacher from the classroom and began an investigation. The teacher resigned the following morning,” principal Debbie Barrett said in a letter sent home to parents, Click2Houston.com reports.

The teacher, who taught elementary students in the district for eight years, apparently attempted to destroy his phone after realizing he was busted, according to ABC 13.

Court documents allege the teacher “broke the phone by snapping it in half and throwing it into a storm drain,” but later “led police to the broken phone … where it was recovered,” according to the news site.

Investigators are now working to recover the pictures on the device to request criminal charges.

In the letter sent home with students, Barrett said school officials were first informed about the alleged misconduct in February.

“In February, the campus received a report from a parent that a second grade teacher at Bush Elementary had taken inappropriate pictures of her child,” Barrett wrote.

Barrett told parents she can’t discuss the case because of “privacy rights,” but assured parents their children are well cared for at the school.

“I know this information upsets you just as it upsets me,” Barrett wrote. “Any time a teacher violates the trust of a child, it makes it more difficult for the majority of teachers who care deeply for the safety and well-being of our students.”

Parents, of course, were shocked and sickened by the news.

“I get more and more scared of sending my kids to school every day,” Missbraza posted to Click2Houston. “It shouldn’t have to be this way. There’s got to be some way to evaluate these people better prior to hiring.”

“Scumbag,” Sup3r$iz3 wrote. “Hope he goes down for this and spends lots of nights in prison with his boyfriend.”

Outofstep believes the bad behavior is becoming more common in schools.

“What is really sad about this story is, it is not surprising,” outofstep wrote. “And that is very unfortunate.”

Others like commenter bluesteel commended the student who reported the teacher’s allegedly perverted antics.

“No words to describe how disgusting this guy is,” bluesteel posted. “But kudos to the kid that saw this happen and reported it. That’s a smart kid being aware of surroundings like that.”
