CHICAGO – Again, talks of Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis challenging current Mayor Rahm Emanuel in the next mayoral election are swirling around the windy city.

“Definitely, the talk of Lewis running is ramping up to a new rate of speed,” according to an anonymous political analyst cited by NBC Chicago.

“A source close to Lewis” told the television station the CTU boss is “seriously considering” taking a shot at Emanuel’s job next February. Lewis has reportedly met with election attorneys, and intends on making a final decision in August.

Just a few months ago, Lewis told reporters her husband had nixed any hope of running for mayor, though her members clearly want her to run. The fact that she’s maintained her CTU presidency despite a long history of boneheaded comments and childish behavior, unfortunately, is a bad sign that there are likely Chicago residents who would actually vote for her.

It’s a scary thought, as her unprofessional antics speak for themselves.

During her tenure at the head of the CTU, Lewis has mocked U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan’s lisp is a foul-mouthed stand-up routine/ presentation for radical teachers. She’s demanded absurdly high teacher raises, and encouraged the city’s teachers to walk out on students to get them.

Lewis has taught her members how to politicize math lessons with a leftist tilt, stood behind teachers who refused to administer important standardized tests, spread lies about public charter schools teaching creationism, joked about shootings in the city, and countless other absurdities.

While there’s little doubt Mayor Karen Lewis would be a boon for the city’s labor unions, and would provide for an interesting and quite comical mayorship, it would be an embarrassing disaster for Chicago residents who are already struggling under the unbearable weight of the city’s constantly escalating union labor costs.
