SUMMITVILLE, Tenn. – A Tennessee teen claims he was attacked by a killer clown, which came out of the woods and slashed him on the arm.

“An individual dressed in a red hoodie and a clown mask came running at him,” Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves told WTVF. “It’s people who have probably seen this on social media and thinks it’s funny.”

Graves said the teen was slashed on the arm after the clown came from a wooded area near Summitville on Monday.

The incident is among numerous creepy clown sightings across the United States in recent weeks, particularly in the southeast. Many of the incidents start with social media threats against children at local schools, though most have not resulted in confirmed sightings.

In another incident Monday in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, several young children came across creepy clowns in the woods near Greenwood Hill Playground.

“The little boy ran up that way, screaming there were clowns eating something in the woods,” Brianne Hawke, 12, told WNEP.

“A clown started chasing us up here and turned around and went back to the woods. So we thought it was gone, turned around, broke a stick and threw it at us and started calling us, cursing at us, it was scary,” the girl said. “Yes, a clown did this.”

Pottsville police told the news site others reported two men dressed as clowns yelling at children from a vehicle in the Greenwood Hill neighborhood Monday night, as well.

“One lady who lives over there told us that there was clowns in the neighborhood right before we came down yesterday so we were just being careful,” Nashon Key, 15, told WNEP.

“I heard that they’re going around town, scaring kids,” 15-year-old Kevin Devine added. “I heard they scared kids from their bus stop.”

The nearby Frackville Police Department has also warned residents about creepy clowns on Facebook, alleging four people dressed as clowns have been spotted wandering the area, according to the news site.

The incidents follow similar reports in numerous states including Georgia, North and South Carolina, Alabama, California, Ohio, Wisconsin, and others. In several cases the clowns lurked in the woods and approached children, attempting to lure them with candy or money, BBC reports.

Last Friday, La Grange, Georgia police arrested four teens for making terroristic threats and disrupting public schools for allegedly threatening students of several specific schools on Facebook. The posts alleged a creepy clown in a white van was going to abduct children, WXIA reports.

Similar threats made by a Facebook user called “Flomo Clown” triggered a lockdown at two Alabama schools last week, Escambia County High School and Flomation High School, WKRG reports.

The threat that “it’s going down tonight” accompanied by crying and pistol emojis convinced police to investigate. Despite online reports that the “Flomo Clown” was roaming school grounds, police officials were unable to confirm an actual sighting.

And last Tuesday, a Macon, Georgia mother called 911 when her children were chased from a bus stop by creepy clowns, according to the Telegraph of Macon.
