EULESS, Texas – Euless Junior High School teacher Cornelius Antoine Smith could not deny he had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student when confronted by police and school officials last month.

The victim, a student in the first-year teacher’s speech class, became pregnant after the two had sexual intercourse multiple times in May and June at the girl’s home while her parents were not there. The two also kissed and engaged in oral sex at school, when the 26-year-old teacher would pull her out of class, police told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

According to WFAA, Smith, went with the girl and her Spanish speaking family to the Euless Police Department June 3, where both the teacher and the alleged victim gave statements about their relationship.

“Smith told police he began communicating privately with the victim through the Kik messenger app nearly every day over Christmas break of 2015, then in February 2016 he began seeing her outside of school and the relationship become physical,” according to the news site.

Smith, a married father, told police the two had sex on one occasion, when he took the girl’s virginity in his SUV parking in the parking lot of a vacant 99 Cent Store on May 11. He said he did not use a condom and did not believe he ejaculated, the Star-Telegram reports.

The victim told a different story.

The teen said the two began communicating through Kik last fall, and Smith would email her third period teacher to summon the girl to his classroom, where she performed oral sex on him but rejected his offer to return the favor.

“During spring break in March, they had oral sex and sexual intercourse at her house ‘on more than one occasion’ usually after 5 p.m. when her parents were away,” according to the news site. “She said Smith told her he used a condom.

The teen told police she told Smith she was pregnant June 2 after two at home pregnancy tests returned positive results. The girl went with Smith to a pregnancy center where health officials confirmed the pregnancy.

The police affidavit states “the victim wanted it to be known that she did agree to have sex with the suspect,” Fox 4 reports. “However, it was Smith who reached out to her.”

“He told her after they found out she was pregnant, that he would help her if she was going to have the child or have an abortion,” the affidavit read. “He also advised her that he would have to take his wife and children to East Texas first, before he could care for her and their child.”

The girl’s mother turned the teen’s cell phone over to police and officials recovered deleted messages that confirm her recollection of events, and Smith eventually turned himself in to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department on June 22.

Smith now faces a second degree felony charge for the sexual assault of a child, WFAA reports.

School officials told the media that Smith resigned when he was informed the district planned to initiate termination proceedings against him.

“The human resources department met with him immediately and indicated to him the district’s intent to terminate his employment. When presented with this information, Mr. Smith resigned,” Hurst-Euless-Bedford school district spokesman Deanne Hullender told the Star-Telegram, adding that the district “will not tolerate inappropriate interactions or communications with students.”

“The district is cooperating with the local police and immediately notified the State Board for Educator Certification,” Hullender said. “The district has also reached out to the family of the victim to provide support for the student and her family.”
