The suspect was 2 weeks into his new job at Thomas County Central High School in Thomasville, Georgia.

ABC 3 reports police tell them “victims have described Gainous using hand ties and mouth gags on them.”

Police say the teacher has already admitted to having sex with one of those students.

Fox 10 reports most of the incidents took place in the suspect’s home, while some occurred in his school band room.

Brewton detectives traveled to Georgia to arrest Gainous and charge him with “one count of school employee sex.” They say more charges will be coming.

Dr. Dusty Kornegay, Thomas County School System superintendent, tells the Times Enterprise Gainous’ references were checked carefully, and a criminal background check was done.

“Since he has been working at Thomas County Central High School, no indication of any inappropriate conduct has been reported or suspected,” Kornegay tells the paper.

Reuters called the teacher “popular.”

“I know what kids said about him,” said Brewton Police Chief Monte McGougin said. “They loved him. They say he was great, but this is terrible.”
