CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. – A middle school teacher and her husband have been arrested and are accused of hosting pot parties at their house for students.

WSB-TV reports Teasley Middle School teacher Christine Cantrell and her husband Jeff Cantrell were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana less than one ounce, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and disorderly house.

They were both booked into the Cherokee County jail and released on $3,000 bond.

Neighbors tell Channel 2 “the teacher’s home was a known party house.”

When police showed up, they found the teacher providing a place for minors to smoke marijuana. Two minors – both 17-years-old – were allegedly at the home at the time.

“Obviously, the greater impact would be the adverse impact it may have on her employment,” Phil Price, commander of the Cherokee County Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad, tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“She deals with a lot of people at an impressionable age. Whatever her beliefs are about the use of marijuana, it is still against the law in Georgia.”

The Cherokee County School District released a statement saying, “A CCSD administrative investigation into these allegations is underway; the teacher in question will be reassigned to a non-classroom setting until the investigation is concluded.”

According to Fox 5, investigators say there was evidence indicating the home was being used to allow teens to come in and smoke marijuana.

“As a parent, I feel that she should be fired. That’s a crime,” Amanda McLean tells WSB.

“She is in a position where children view her as a role model and she violated that trust, in my view,” Price adds.

It’s unclear if any of the minors were Cantrell’s students.
