The news site reports:

The student told police that another student stabbed her while she was walking in the hallway.

The victim, who suffered a laceration to the lower part of her face, was taken to Ochsner Hospital for treatment. The injury was considered non-life-threatening.

The suspect, who was not named, is 15 years old.

Police say she used an “eyebrow razor” to attack the girl as they passed in the hallway.

“The older girl told investigators she was ‘constantly being bullied by the victim and was tired of it,’ said Col. John Fortunato, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman,” according to the Times-Picayune.

The Jefferson Parish Public Schools released a statement after the incident, saying:

“The safety of all Jefferson Parish Public School students and employees is a district priority.  JPSO has confirmed there was an isolated incident of aggravated battery by cutting (non life-threatening) that occurred this morning at Bonnabel High School involving two students. Bonnabel’s assigned Police on Campus (POC) alerted EMS and law enforcement of the incident at 8:52 a.m. Deputies are on campus working the investigation and have advised that Bonnabel remain on lock-down until the investigation of the incident is completed. Lock-down means that neither entering nor exiting the campus will be allowed until authorized by sheriff’s deputies.

“We want to assure our students, parents and community that we are following the lead of the sheriff’s department at this time. Bonnabel’s campus is safe and secure. Parents of Bonnabel students may contact the school by phone if they have questions.”

Parents were upset because they heard about the incident from their children and not school leaders.
