HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A Florida high school senior is in jail after police allege he extorted nude images and sexual acts from female students through the smartphone app Kik Messenger.

Terry Fenelon, 18, is charged with sexual battery by coercion and threat/extortion for messaging at least three teenage girls and demanding nude images or sex acts between November 2015 and January 2016, WSVN reports.

Police allege Fenelon used the name “Dre” on the app to request nude images from 15- and 16-year-old girls and they initially denied his requests. The girls told police “Dre” then either threatened to harm their families or expose other nude images he said he possessed if they didn’t comply.

The victims eventually complied by sending nude images, which allegedly prompted more threats, according to court documents.

According to Local 10:

Prosecutors said the girls agreed to perform a sexual act on Dre’s ‘cousin,’ Fenelon, so that Dre wouldn’t send their nude photos to family members on Facebook.

According to an arrest affidavit, one of the victims said she had sex with Fenelon after he continued making threats against her family. She said he even told her where her 6-year-old niece got off the school bus and said that if she wanted to see her niece again then she would comply with his demands.

The other teen told detectives that she performed oral sex on Fenelon after he sent her a screen shot of her nude pictures and threatened to send it to her father.

The oral sex allegedly occurred at Homestead Senior High School, where Fenelon and his alleged victims attend class. Two of Fenelon’s alleged victims told police they eventually realized “Dre” and Fenelon are the same person and decided to tell school officials.

Miami-Dade County state attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle issued a statement on the case Wednesday.

“This is exactly the kind of awful crime that our recent revenge porn legislation aimed to curtail,” Fernandez Rundle said. “This forced sexual humiliation of young women was meant to satisfy a sick need for power. We know that there are more victims who suffered at the hands of this young man. This is the time for other victims to come forward and reclaim your pride.”

“What we’re looking at here is just a new form of what rapists and sexual predators do these days,” she said. “Using technology to manipulate, control and in these cases, have coerced sexual relations. That’s rape.”

Court records show Fenelon was already arrested by Miami-Dade police in December for using a similar extortion scheme on his sister’s 15-year-old friend, Local 10 reports.

In that case, Fenelon allegedly convinced the girl to send him a nude picture on Kik Messenger and posted the image to Facebook. The girl told police Fenelon forced her to perform oral sex on him to remove the post, and attempted to threaten her with the same scheme a second time, but she refused and told authorities.

WVSN reports the judge overseeing Fenelon’s most recent bond hearing was appalled by his alleged misdeeds.

“Bondable? He’s a predator on these kids from the school,” the judge said in denying Fenelon’s release from jail. “I’m ordering that you stay away from the victims, the alleged victims.”

The Miami-Dade school district issued a prepared statement about the case.

“The details of this case are extremely disturbing. Although social media has many positive uses, this incident serves as a good reminder that parents need to monitor their children’s social media activity and warn them of the negative consequences when it is improperly used,” it read.

“We will continue to teach our students about the rights and responsibilities of digital citizenship, because their safety, security and well-being continue to be the school district’s highest concern.”
