EL PASO, Texas – An El Paso police officer was ticketed and is now under investigation after he rear-ended a school bus in front of a local elementary school shortly before school today.

Veteran officer Kevin Mckinney was cited for driver inattention after he rammed into the back of a school bus around 7:45 a.m. in front of Schuster Elementary School in Northeast El Paso, KVIA reports.

copbuscrashNo children were aboard the bus, and Mckinney was not injured, though many parents and students witnessed the collision on their way into school, according to KFOX.

Witnesses, who took snapped pictures of the crash, told news site the bus was parked when Mckinney smashed into the rear drivers side, partially pinning the cruiser under the bus.

El Paso Independent School District officials said that taking the bus out of commission will not impact student transportation as the district has backup buses.

District spokesman Gustavo Reveles told KFOX school police are still investigating the incident.

Mckinney has worked for El Paso Police for 7 years.

The initial KVIA report alleged officials had not determined who was at fault, but the story was later changed to reflect the citation against the officer.

Of course, many folks online had a field day with the incident.

“Don’t you just hate it when random school buses just jump out into the street in front of you,” Dante joked in the KVIA comments.

“I know, right?” tribbles responded. “They should be painted in some bright color.”

Aaron Freeman questioned “How the hell does this kind of Mickey Mouse nonsense happen?!”

“This guy needs serious … refresh! Geeze!” he continued. “Either that, or fire his ass! What an embarrassment for EPPD!”

“I bet they didn’t even drug test this officer,” Sophie Cat wrote. “Why bother.”

“The bus was large and threatening,” MSMediacritic posted. “It just stayed there instead of retreating as the police officer got closer. Obvious justification: The police officer was in fear for his life.”

“Check the officer’s personal phone records!” commenter Luis added. “Not practicing what they preach perhaps.”
