PICO RIVERA, Calif. – A California high school coach faces criminal charges in two states after police said he absconded with a 15-year-old student when the girl’s parents learned of their intimate relationship.

Police arrested San Gabriel Mission High School athletic director Juan Ivan Barajas in Nevada with a 15-year-old female student who was reported missing by her parents in Pico Rivera on Friday, CBS Los Angeles reports.

“Missing … my daughter. Alexandra Morua, 15, left home in Pico Rivera on Friday between 5:30 & 6 p.m. and never returned,” the girl’s parents posted in an alert online. “A missing persons report has been filed, I’m asking for everyone’s help to find her. Focusing between Pico Rivera and San Gabriel, the route from home to school. I’m praying someone will see her.”

The family later posted a picture of Barajas, 36, in an “important update.”

“For those of you who have not heard or seen yet, it breaks my heart to say that the man who has Alex is our own, Coach Ivan Juan Barajas. He took her from our home on Friday after finding out that he was caught in serious trouble with her,” the family wrote.

“They have fled to Vegas last we heard, and we are hoping to catch them before they go even further,” according to the post, which also offered a description of Barajas and his vehicle – a Lexus with “20inch chrome wheels.”

Barajas, who coached the San Gabriel Mission High School girls soccer team to a championship in 2015, was arrested Tuesday in Henderson, Nevada, and now faces criminal charges in both that state and California, according to the news site.

Police told CBS Los Angeles the girl’s parents believed she was abducted at first, but the investigation revealed she went with the coach willingly.
