LANDSBERG, Germany – A class of German 14- and 15-year-olds are being accused of using a social media app to engage in “pro-Hitler tirades.”

The Sun reports “29 girls and boys allegedly greeted each other with ‘Heil Hitler’ salutes and swapped Nazi slogans throughout the day over messaging service WhatsApp.”

The teens are also accused of making anti-Semetic slurs in their messages and praising Hitler as a “great man.”

According to the paper, police are investigating the class at a school in Landsberg near Leipzig.

A spokesman for the regional education leader says, “If this is true there can only be one way forward here – zero tolerance.”

A psychologist will reportedly meet the children, teachers and parents next week.

“Symbols from the Nazi-era, such as the swastika or the ‘Heil Hitler’ salute, are illegal in Germany,” according to the Minnesota Post. The Sun reports that can carry a punishment of up to 6 months in jail.

Holocaust denial is punishable by imprisonment, as well.

The country has tried to crack down on neo-Nazi groups by raiding “dozens of members’ homes and meeting places,” the New York Times reports.

In their raids, officers have confiscated “weapons, computers and other materials, including posters from the far-right National Democratic Party.”
