SELMA, Ala. – A 6th grade teacher has reportedly been placed on paid administrative leave after having her class conduct a reenactment of the shooting of Ferguson, Missouri teen Michael Brown.

The Selma Times-Journal reports the Brantley Elementary School teacher, whom the district refused to identify, had students reenact the incident – apparently according to media accounts – as well as “research how many times Brown was shot and where he was shot.”

The paper reports:

Jessica Baughn, the mother of a Brantley Elementary teacher, published a post on Sound Off Selma Facebook page expressing her shock about the news her child, a 6th grade student, gave her in regards to his teacher telling the class to reenact the shooting in which unarmed Mike Brown was shot by police in Ferguson, Mo., research how many times Brown was shot and where he was shot.

“That is absurd to me,” Baughn tells the newspaper. “Then you turn around and make them reenact every bit of it, including the shooting.”

Dallas County Schools Superintendent of Education Don Willingham held a meeting between the building principal, the teacher and Baughn.

“I did put the teacher on administrative leave with pay today, because we wanted to do the investigation,” Willingham said.

He called that “standard procedure.”

The investigation into the death of Brown is ongoing. No charges have been filed against the officer and no court hearings – which separate fact from opinion and spin – have been held.
