LAS VEGAS, Nev. – What is it about public school personnel and pricey hotels?

The seven members of the Clark County, Nevada school board spent a total of $46,697.47 in school district dollars on various things in the 2015-16 fiscal year.

And when the seven board members traveled, they usually did so in style. They ran up a collective tab of $11,672,06 at hotels around the nation in 2015-16, with quite a few stays at very nice hotels, according to information provided by the district.

They also spent a collective $7,881.47 on airline travel.

The school district did not specify the reasons for the trips or hotel stays, but we assume they were for out-of-town conferences or other school business.

Board member Carolyn Edwards had nine different charges at hotels for a total of $2,884.61. Her largest expenditure was at the Mayflower Autograph  – described online as a “luxury hotel in Washington, D.C.” –  for $774.57. There was also a stay at the Mariott Marquis in Washington D.C. for $545.26, two stays at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach (495.28 and $301.64, respectively) and the Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno ($298.67).

Edwards had $2,356.55 in airline costs.

Board member Linda Young had four hotel charges in 2015-16 for a total cost of $2,880.73.

She charged $1,290.95 at the Mayflower Autograph. She also charged $599.22 at the Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno, and had two transactions, each for $495.28, at the Hyatt Regency in Long Beach, California. Her air fare tab came to $1,053.91.

Board member Kevin Child had seven hotel charges for a total of $2,300.22. His most expensive charges were at the Mayflower Autograph in Washington, D.C. ($1,032,76), the Intercontinental Hotel in Miami ($803.82) and the Hyatt Regency in Long Beach, California ($247.64).

Child’s airline tab came to $1,476.34.

Board member Chris Garvey had only three hotel charges, but they totaled $2,104.57. Most of that was spent at the Sheraton Boston Hotel, where the tab came to $1,686.30. His air fare total was $1,329.87.

Three board members had much smaller hotel tabs.

Deanna Wright only had three hotel charges for a total of $574.87. Two were at the Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno ($328.99) and Hyatt Hotels in Reno ($235.61). She totaled $689.95 iii air fare.

Erin Cranor had two hotel charges totaling $771.55. Her most expensive stay was at the Hyatt in Chicago for $659.94. She had $772.89 in airline costs.

Board member Patrice Tew was by far the most frugal, with two hotel transactions for a total of $155.51. Her air fare came to $201.96.
