CHICAGO – Beloved resident, no more.

The University of Chicago and the University of Illinois at Chicago have both submitted applications to host the Obama presidential library.

The news has become the latest opportunity for city residents to vent anger at the president.

Specifically, residents are upset that the neighborhood hospital doesn’t have a trauma center.

They took to Hyde Park to protest against the University of Chicago’s application.

“If the University of Chicago can’t provide the people of the South Side with a trauma center then they should not be provided with the honor of hosting President Obama’s library,” protestor Veronica Morris Moore with the organization Trauma Care Coalition, tells NBC Chicago.

Protesters held signs that read “U of C doesn’t think #blacklivesmatter.”

Others read “NO trauma center NO library.”

Susan Sher, Michelle Obama’s former chief of staff and coordinator for the university’s proposal, disputed that.

“The trauma center issue, which is a serious question, has nothing whatsoever to do with the importance of bringing a presidential library to the South Side,” she says.

Meanwhile, students at West Side school took time out of their day to hold a rally with former Detroit Pistons player Isiah Thomas to boost UIC’s chances.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is attempting to help UIC by attempting to donate “a 23-acre, city-owned property at Kostner Avenue and Roosevelt Road, a former headquarters and distribution center for Sears Roebuck,” according to Crain’s.

Emanuel is also proposing to reopen a Chicago Transit Authority stop at an estimated cost of $35 million to $40 million.

University of Hawaii of Honolulu, the president’s birth city, and Columbia University in New York are also being considered.
